Vera Lúcia: "Jackson and Amorim are alike"
The state president of the PSTU party, Vera Lúcia, confirms her pre-candidacy for governor of the state and launches an attack against the acting governor Jackson Barreto (PMDB) and Senator Eduardo Amorim (PSC); but not only against them: “the federal government, Mayor João Alves (DEM), Governor Marcelo Déda (PT), Vice-Governor Jackson Barreto, and Senator Amorim are all responsible for the chaos in public health in Sergipe. These gentlemen have been alternating in power for years, deceiving the population with beautiful promises during the election campaign and then turning their backs on them,” she stated.
Roberto Aguiar - “We are following through the media the exchange of barbs between Senator Amorim (PSC) and the acting governor, Jackson Barreto (PMDB). These gentlemen are alike; until yesterday they ate from the same plate. The senator only broke with the state government when the ship began to sink. And if the lives of the people have not improved, the blame does not lie solely with one or the other; the blame lies with both. Both govern against the workers and the poor,” states Vera Lúcia, state president of the PSTU.
According to Vera Lúcia, the problem in public health is chronic, and all government officials share some of the blame. “The federal government, Mayor João Alves (DEM), Governor Marcelo Déda (PT), Vice-Governor Jackson Barreto, and Senator Amorim are all responsible for the chaos in public health in Sergipe. These gentlemen have been alternating in power for years, deceiving the population with beautiful promises during election campaigns and then turning their backs on them. When they fall ill, they all seek treatment in the best hospitals in the country. This is true for João Alves, Marcelo Déda, and Senator Maria do Carmo (DEM). If they were consistent with their discourse of investing in improving the lives of the population, these gentlemen would treat their illnesses at HUSE. That's where the poor population treats their illnesses, without any prospect of improvement. Enough of the demagoguery; they are all the same. Replacing one of these gentlemen with another is like swapping one bad situation for another.”
Vera questions Jackson Barreto's statements regarding the federal government's "More Doctors" program. "And it's not true that the 'More Doctors' program of the Dilma government will solve the public health problem. This program brings doctors, but it doesn't bring money to invest in building more public hospitals and health centers, whether in the interior or the capital. On the contrary, 44% of the Union's budget is allocated to paying interest and amortization of the public debt. A debt that doesn't belong to the people. And only 4,17% is allocated to public health. And Amorim's PSC, as well as Jackson's PMDB, the support base of the Dilma government, never opposed this. Therefore, don't try to deceive our people now that you are different."
Elections 2014
The state president of the PSTU affirms that the party defends the formation of a Left Front with the PSOL and the PCB to contest the state government elections in 2014. “Polls reveal that a significant portion of the population has woken up and no longer wants the power struggle between the old guard. The municipal elections in Aracaju were an example of this, with the number of votes we received. It is our duty to present a candidacy in 2014, with a program that responds to the most pressing needs of the poor population of our state. The PT and the PCdoB no longer fulfill this role; they are parties of the establishment and are involved in the dirty game of exchanging favors and backroom deals.”
Vera Lúcia confirms her pre-candidacy for governor of Sergipe. “We are scoring well in all the polls. I am happy about this, as it signifies a political reference point within the socialist left. We want to officially launch our pre-candidacy for governor in December, but we will hold this debate together with PSOL and PCB, as our pre-candidacy will be at the service of building the Left Front. We are finalizing the details of the program.”
