Sugar mills in the Northeast and Northeast regions will meet the US sugar quota.
A total of 52 sugar mills in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil will be responsible for supplying 161,257 tons of sugar to the United States through the preferential quota allocated to Brazil by the US government. The majority of shipments will be handled by mills located in Alagoas, with 22 mills responsible for supplying 46,41% of the total volume of the American quota. Pernambuco follows, with 16 mills fulfilling 38,41% of the established quota. Mills in Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, Sergipe, Piauí, Amazonas, Maranhão, and Pará have also received authorization to carry out shipments.
Pernambuco 247 - A total of 52 sugar mills in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil will be responsible for supplying 161,257 tons of sugar to the United States through the preferential quota allocated to Brazil by the US government. The distribution, defined by Normative Instruction 55/2013 of the Ministry of Agriculture, will be valid for shipments made between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014.
Most of the shipments will be handled by mills located in Alagoas. A total of 22 mills in that state will be responsible for supplying 46,41% of the total volume of the American quota. Pernambuco comes next, with 16 mills meeting the limit of 38,41% of the established quota.
In addition to Pernambuco and Alagoas, four other plants in Paraíba (4,06%), two in Rio Grande do Norte (4,06%), two in Bahia (3,69%), two in Sergipe (1,69%), one in Piauí (0,7%), one in Amazonas (0,39%), one in Maranhão (0,32%), and one in Pará (0,27%) were also included in the Ministry of Agriculture's decree.
