Sergipe 247 - Starting at 14 pm this Tuesday (13), Uber's private transport service will begin operating in Aracaju. The capital of Sergipe is the 37th city in Brazil to receive the application, which still faces resistance from taxi drivers and municipal laws.
In Aracaju, a bill created by councilman and president of the City Council, Vinicius Porto (DEM), was approved and prohibits the use of private cars registered in apps for the paid individual transportation of people. The councilman says he will only comment on the matter after the service is implemented.
Regarding the controversies surrounding the service offered by the app in the capital cities where it operates, Uber's communications manager, Pedro Proncho, explains that the service provided by Uber's partner drivers is private individual transportation, a modality foreseen in the National Urban Mobility Policy – PNMU (Federal Law 12.587/2012).
He also informed that in the capital of Sergipe, the service offered will be Uber X, a category with the lowest fares, cars with four doors, air conditioning, and manufactured from 2008 onwards. The fare is calculated based on mileage and travel time: the base fare - call cost - is R$ 2,50, plus R$ 1,20 per kilometer and R$ 0,14 per minute.
To use Uber, users must download the app on their mobile phone and register, adding a credit card, which will be used for payment. Through the app, the passenger indicates their origin location, and the nearest driver is contacted. After the ride, the user rates the driver on a scale of zero to five stars, and the driver also rates the passenger.
