Toucans begin flying at the capital's city hall.
Allied with Mayor Márcio Lacerda (PSB), who is running for reelection, the PSDB party loses strength in the city hall with the removal of Fernando Janotti from the Sudecap department. This agency is considered key to the municipal administration.
Mines 247 – The head of the Superintendency for the Development of the Capital (Sudecap) has been dismissed from his post. Fernando Antônio Costa Janotti is linked to the PSDB party, which is still trying to retain control of the department. According to the PSDB, Janotti's dismissal has a clear political motivation and was allegedly orchestrated by the Secretary of Public Works and Infrastructure, Murilo Valadares, who is affiliated with the PT party.

The PSDB party lost one of its most important positions in the Belo Horizonte City Hall. The head of the Superintendency for the Development of the Capital (Sudecap), Fernando Antônio Costa Janotti, was dismissed and replaced by the former deputy municipal secretary of Planning and Control, José Lauro Nogueira Terror, who is also the former vice-president of Construtel, one of the companies that belonged to Mayor Marcio Lacerda (PSB). Sudecap is responsible for authorizing large-scale construction projects in Belo Horizonte.
The PSDB party tried to retain the position by nominating the Irrigation Director of the Minas Gerais Sanitation Company (Copasa), Reinaldo Alves Costa, one of the engineers responsible for the construction of the Administrative City. According to a PSDB member of parliament, the name wasn't vetoed by the mayor, but it was put on hold by Lacerda, who preferred José Lauro. Janotti, a state civil servant, will assume the Superintendency of the Department of Public Works of the State of Minas Gerais (Deop).
According to the PSDB party, the downfall of their ally was orchestrated by the Secretary of Public Works and Infrastructure, Murilo Valadares, a member of the PT party. Sudecap is subordinate to this department. "Murilo had already put a price on his head," assures a source within the PSDB. The difficulties between the two were said to be so significant that they never attended the same meetings. "Communication was only by email," reveals a city hall employee who wished to remain anonymous.
The loss of the position comes at a time when PSB, PT, and PSDB are discussing the renewal of the alliance that elected Lacerda in 2008, as well as the formation of the slate of candidates for city council. Sudecap was one of the three "top" PSDB positions in the city hall. The others are the Superintendency of the Belo Horizonte Transportation and Traffic Company (BHTrans) and the Municipal Health Secretariat. The PSDB also maintains control of the Pampulha Regional, also considered a top-level position. The party's nominee, Osmando Pereira da Silva, left the post to run for mayor of Itaúna, in the Central-West region of Minas Gerais. To replace him, the PSDB has presented two names. Councilman Pablito, the PSDB leader in the city council, supports career municipal employee Humberto de Abreu Pereira, an engineer affiliated with the party. Federal deputy Eduardo Azeredo, responsible for Osmando's nomination, wants James Ladeia, currently working at the Housing Company of Minas Gerais (Cohab), in the position.

Yesterday, Lacerda dismissed four employees appointed by councilman Sérgio Fernando (PV): Wagner Bernardino de Souza, advisor in the Government Secretariat; Jucinele Gonçalves Santos Lourenço, advisor in the Deputy Secretariat of Human Resources; Luciana Mendes França, cabinet assistant in the Central-South Regional Office; and Tânya Regina Campos Reis, service supervisor in the West Regional Office. The councilman argued in the Chamber's plenary session on Thursday afternoon with the government leader, Tarcísio Caixeta (PT), when both were presenting requests for voting, and there were already complaints in the House that he had been behaving as a member of the opposition. "It is the role of the parliamentarian to position himself in the way he deems appropriate in relation to the government," Caixeta downplayed the situation. The councilman from the PV party, whose mayoral candidate is state deputy Délio Malheiros, retorted: "The leader promised that all my appointments to the mayor's office would be dropped today; otherwise, he would withdraw Lacerda's representation in the Chamber."
