Alagoas247 - A sweep conducted by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) identified 2.761 cases of duplicate fingerprints in Alagoas and other states of the Federation, such as Amazonas and Goiás. The work was done on part of the database of 24 million voters who underwent biometric re-registration.

According to court information, in theory, each voter could vote more than once in the same election without this being noticed by the poll workers. In several cases, there are indications of identity fraud and attempted electoral fraud, with evidence of the same fingerprint registered in up to 10 different polling stations. The record holder is a voter with fingerprints in more than 20 electoral offices, meaning they were eligible to vote more than 20 times.

The Federal Police (PF) was called in to investigate, and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) adopted two procedures to deal with the duplicates. In situations where repeated fingerprints were found in two locations, only the most recent record was canceled. However, in cases of repeated fingerprints in multiple polling stations, all records were canceled.

The discovery of hundreds of voters with duplicate fingerprints just days before the election helps to make the election more secure. But, at the same time, it exposes an administrative lapse by the Electoral Court, which, with millions of dollars in electoral investments, has been re-registering voters using the biometric system since 2008. Cases have been registered in Alagoas, Amazonas, Goiás, and other states in the country.

The scan began in early September. Since each voter registers all ten fingers in the re-registration process, there are approximately 240 million fingerprint images to be analyzed. Each new fingerprint needs to be compared with the entire set already verified, which requires enormous processing power and slows down the service.

By Wednesday night (01), 67% of the database had been checked. Even operating 24 hours a day, it will not be possible to complete the analysis of the 24 million voters by Sunday, the day of the first round. It is estimated that around 80% will have been verified.
