TRT declares strike illegal.
Despite the demands of the bus drivers in Greater Recife, the Regional Labor Court sees the category's strike as illegal and sets midnight this Thursday (5) as the deadline for returning to work; a 7% salary increase was given to drivers, conductors and inspectors.
Raphael Coutinho _PE247 – The Labor Court declared illegal the movement carried out by the bus drivers to paralyze activities since last Wednesday (4) and determined, this Thursday (5), the return to work. Activities should be normalized from midnight. A 7% salary readjustment was also agreed for the category, in addition to the discount in the salary of workers who did not provide the service during the paralysis. In case of non-compliance, the Union of Road Transport Workers in the State of Pernambuco (STTREPE) will be fined R$ 20 thousand per day.
The decision that the movement was illegal and abusive was unanimous among the judges of the Regional Labor Court (TRT). Judge Nise Pedroso, rapporteur of the dispute, justified the decision by alleging a lack of communication on the part of the bus drivers. "The bus drivers did not notify the employers or the public 72 hours in advance, and negotiations had not been exhausted," she commented in an interview with Rede Globo.
With the 7% readjustment, the drivers' salary will be R$ 1.500, the conductors' R$ 690, and the inspectors' R$ 970. After the decision, the bus drivers occupied the main streets of downtown Recife, causing disruptions for drivers circulating in the area.
Despite this, the president of STTRE-PE, Patrício Magalhães, guaranteed a return to work. "A court decision is not up for discussion. The adjustment was not what was expected, but it is higher than what was given in other states," he justified to TV Globo.
