Workers end strike at Mineirão.

Following the agreement signed this morning, the stadium renovation, aimed at preparing it for the 2014 World Cup, will continue.

Workers involved in the renovation of the Mineirão stadium met in an assembly this Monday morning and decided to suspend their strike. The workers accepted a 4% salary increase and reached an agreement with the Extraordinary State Secretariat for the World Cup (Secopa). The work stoppage, aimed at preparing for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, had begun last Wednesday.

The agreement provides for a 4% salary increase, applied across the board to all employees; the introduction of a health plan for workers by the end of June; payment of 100% overtime pay; provision of a basic food basket or food voucher worth R$ 60 starting on July 10th; profit-sharing payments proportional to length of service on the project; and job security for workers who are part of the employee representative committee.

The proposal was presented at a hearing in the Regional Labor Court of the 3rd Region, in the capital of Minas Gerais, on Friday night, which was attended by representatives of the Minas Arena consortium, responsible for the construction, and the Construction Workers Union of Belo Horizonte (Sticbh).
