The Court of Justice will hold a competition for notary offices.

The Court of Justice will hold a competition for notary offices.

Alagoas 247 - Judge Tutmés Airan, vice-president of the Court of Justice of Alagoas (TJ/AL), announced, this Tuesday (02), the preparation of a public tender notice for the filling of 75 notary offices in Alagoas, which were declared vacant by the National Council of Justice (CNJ). The expectation is that the entire process will be completed by the end of the year, including the summoning of those approved.

According to the judge, of the 75 vacant positions, some are economically unviable, and therefore, a bill that "re-engineers" the positions is being prepared to be sent to the State Legislative Assembly (ALE).

“Some of these offices are unviable because the population is small and the demand is low. To avoid holding a competition and risking a lack of candidates for some offices, we are making this readjustment. The idea is to combine this office with another in a nearby municipality. And, to meet the needs of the population, the Court of Justice would frequently carry out itinerant outreach programs in these locations,” the judge points out.

According to him, Alagoas currently has 242 notary offices. After the competition, the state will have 129, of which 75 will be subject to competition. "What I can say is that there are municipalities that will no longer have notary offices," says Turmés Airan.

The restructuring of notary offices is a reality throughout the country, given that these institutions currently function as a family service, passed down from father to son, which is considered unconstitutional by the judge. “This current model is anti-republican and unconstitutional. This logic can only be broken by holding public competitions, making the positions available to any citizen who meets the requirements to fill the post,” states the judge, who notes that he does not remember the last time a notary public competition was held in Alagoas.

During the interview, Tutmés Airan also spoke about the need for public competitive examinations to fill vacancies in the Judiciary, given that some districts in Alagoas are being run by municipal employees. "This situation is unsustainable. Public competitive examinations are needed for first-instance court employees and also for new judges," he emphasized.
