Thiago Peixoto disagrees with Kassab regarding internet data cap.

Despite being one of the leading figures in the PSD party, federal deputy Thiago Peixoto publicly opposed the idea of Gilberto Kassab, the party's president and Minister of Communications, to limit fixed internet access in Brazil. Thiago stated that what needs to be demanded is an improvement in the services currently provided by the operators, "which don't even have the desired quality."

Goiás 247 - Despite being one of the leading figures in the PSD party, federal deputy Thiago Peixoto publicly opposed the idea of Gilberto Kassab, the party's president and Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, to limit fixed internet access in Brazil, similar to what already happens with mobile plans.

The issue stirred up social media on Friday (13) and even became the most talked about topic in Brazil on Twitter. “I have great respect for the leadership of Minister @gilbertokassab. But I do not agree with the limitation of fixed internet data. #NoToInternetLimit”, the parliamentarian posted on his Twitter, using the hashtag that went viral.

The congressman made several consecutive posts on the subject, making his position in favor of the consumer clear. He said that what is needed is to demand improvements in the services currently provided by the operators, "which do not even have the desired quality," he criticized. Thiago also highlighted that the limitation violates, for example, the Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet and net neutrality, in addition to restricting the creation and use of new technologies.

Thiago Peixoto explained that limiting fixed internet speeds would directly harm streaming services like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube, which are used for entertainment, leisure, information seeking, and knowledge acquisition. "In the Chamber of Deputies, I will work against this idea. We need to approve a bill against the limitation," he warned.

Still on Friday the 13th, faced with the negative reaction across the internet, Minister Gilberto Kassab decided to backtrack on his position. He said that this matter will no longer be discussed. In any case, Thiago Peixoto anticipated that he will present a Bill in the Chamber of Deputies, soon after the end of the parliamentary recess, with the aim of blocking the idea of the limitation.
