Pernambuco 247 - Former senator Marina Silva, who held the vice-presidential slot on Eduardo Campos' (PSB) ticket, who died last Wednesday (13) in a plane crash in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, landed in Recife on Saturday afternoon to attend the funeral ceremonies for the former governor of Pernambuco. Practically already positioned as the candidate on the PSB ticket, Marina said she has a sense of responsibility and that the commitments made by Campos will be maintained. "I have a sense of responsibility and commitment to what the loss of Eduardo imposes on us," she said.

Upon landing at the Recife Air Force Base, Marina avoided discussing her political future or the internal discussions within the PSB party regarding whether or not to confirm her as the party's candidate in the October election. According to O Globo, Marina reportedly commented on the fact that she did not board the same plane as Campos.

"I think there is divine providence in relation to me, to Miguel (Campos' son), to Renata (the ex-governor's widow), and to Molina (Campos' advisor and Renata's nephew)," she said. She also emphasized that during her trip to Recife, she spent the flight listening to a sermon by Ananias because of her fear of flying after the accident.
