"We must punish those who engaged in espionage."

Senator Walter Pinheiro (PT) expressed outrage over the US government's spying on President Dilma Rousseff; "It is necessary not only to curb, but also to severely punish those who have practiced, over the years, a true form of espionage, not only from the point of view of governments, but also from the point of view of invading the privacy of thousands of citizens in various countries," said the PT member, a member of the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) that will be installed today in the Senate to investigate the US government's practices; the president of the Chamber's Foreign Relations Committee, Deputy Nelson Pelegrino, also wants to install a CPI.

Congress is today establishing a parliamentary commission of inquiry (CPI) to investigate allegations made by the Fantástico program that the United States government spied on President Dilma Rousseff, the so-called Espionage CPI.

A member of the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), Senator Walter Pinheiro, from the PT (Workers' Party), said that the investigation will involve international organizations, "so that, once and for all, this investigation can be brought to a conclusion."

"It is necessary not only to curb, but also to severely punish those who have practiced, over the years, veritable espionage, not only from the point of view of governments, but also from the point of view of invading the privacy of thousands of citizens in various countries," said the Workers' Party member.

In the Chamber of Deputies, the president of the Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense (CREDN), Deputy Nelson Pelegrino, also from Bahia and also from the PT party, promised to officially propose today the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) with the same purpose as the Senate commission.

"This is extremely serious, an unacceptable episode of violation of national sovereignty. The United States, from what I understand, does not accept any type of agreement that preserves the privacy of ordinary people and authorities. This commission of inquiry is to investigate everything that has been reported so far and what may still come to light."

Pelegrino also said that the Brazilian government was right to summon the US ambassador, Thomas Shannon, to provide clarifications.

Senator Walter Pinheiro states that the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry should also focus on Brazil's lack of control over the satellites, which are operated by American companies.

"It's important to remember that the entire Brazilian satellite communication process is operated by satellites over which we have no control." The Espionage CPI will be installed later today at 14:30 PM in the Senate.
