Temer was vice president in 2014 and Campos was president in 2018.

The suggestion comes from Governor Jaques Wagner; he outlined plans for President Dilma and the PT (Workers' Party) until 2018 and made it clear that he does not agree with the idea of offering the PMDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement Party) the top spot in the São Paulo gubernatorial election to accommodate Eduardo Campos (PSB) as Dilma's running mate in 2014; "I'm not very much in favor of messing things up only to fix them later"; the PT member believes that, if that were the case, Campos would not accept the vice-presidential position.

Governor Jaques Wagner (PT) has already begun his work as coordinator of President Dilma Rousseff's reelection campaign in the Northeast in 2014. After stating in a speech at the Diálogos Capitais – Nordeste seminar in Recife that Brazil should be proud of the PT's 10 years in power, he outlined a scenario leading up to the 2018 elections, which he believes to be the most viable for maintaining the "project".

According to Wagner, the PT (Workers' Party) should begin to consider giving up the top spot on the presidential ticket in 2018, with the greater goal of maintaining the unity of the political group which, according to him, was indispensable for the "consolidation" of the project.

The context of the statement, according to an article in Valor Econômico, was the possible presidential candidacy of the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos (PSB).

"I can say that in 2018 we will complete 16 years of government, of a political project that has allies without whom we wouldn't have progressed, and that has the PT (Workers' Party) at the helm, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the PT at the helm. This is a construction that is being built, but it goes through the second government of President Dilma (Rousseff), and not this one."

A friend of President Dilma and former President Lula, and with good connections within the national leadership of the PT (Workers' Party), the governor of Bahia expressed his opposition to the strategy – attributed to Lula – of offering the PMDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement Party) the top spot in the São Paulo gubernatorial election to accommodate Campos as Dilma's running mate in 2014.

"I'm not very keen on messing things up only to fix them later. I think Michel [Temer] also carries the same legitimacy that she [Dilma] has. I don't think the vice-presidency is of interest to Eduardo [Campos]. The question is how he will be positioned in Dilma's next administration, because being vice-president doesn't necessarily mean he will be president in the next election."

Also in the interview with Valor, Jaques Wagner confirmed that one of President Dilma's immediate priorities is to work to calm the tempers of the rebels within her base, such as the PSB and PR parties, and to adjust the political landscape to accommodate the PSD.

"I always say that we have to build this journey by bringing people together so as not to give our opponents a chance."

Regarding the invitation that Eduardo Campos allegedly extended to Minister Eliana Calmon to join the PSB party in order to run for governor of Bahia in 2014, Wagner stated that, in his view, Senator Lídice da Mata (PSB) would be the natural candidate should the party decide to launch its own campaign in Bahia. "She has already been mayor of the capital, she is a senator, and she has electoral strength."

After the event, Wagner met with Campos at the temporary headquarters of the Pernambuco government.
