President Michel Temer travels tomorrow (9) to the Northeast, where he inaugurates a tour of visits to other regions of the country outside the South-Southeast axis. He will visit two cities in Pernambuco this Friday (9) for events related to the transposition of the São Francisco River. He will also participate in an event in Fortaleza of interest to local farmers. Next week, Temer is scheduled to visit the Tucuruí Hydroelectric Plant in Pará.

In Surubim (PE), the president will fulfill his agenda at the Jucazinho Dam, whose construction was recommended by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office in Pernambuco a little over two months ago. Afterwards, he will visit one of the pumping stations of the São Francisco Integration Program in the municipality of Salgueiro (PE).

In Fortaleza, Temer will participate in a ceremony to regulate the conditions for implementing Law 13.340, which allows for the settlement of rural credit debts. A demand of rural producers in the region, the legislation, approved in September by Congress, grants discounts for one year on loans contracted with the Banco do Nordeste or the Banco da Amazônia. Farmers who incurred debts up to 2011 will receive discounts for payments made until December 29, 2017.

The new law also authorizes the renegotiation of debts contracted with banks for the same one-year period, with a grace period until 2020, in addition to discounts for those wishing to settle their rural debts contracted with the Land Fund. The changes were proposed by the federal government in June, through a provisional measure. According to the economic team, the discounts are necessary especially after rural producers faced difficult weather conditions in recent years.

These will be Temer's first visits to the North and Northeast regions since assuming the presidency, initially as interim president, in May of this year. He has already traveled to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo on several occasions, in addition to fulfilling international commitments in China, India, Japan, and the United States, as well as neighboring Paraguay and Argentina.
