Tarso will analyze investigations against activists.
After representatives from the PSOL and PSTU parties requested the immediate dismissal of a police investigation into alleged acts of violence and vandalism by members of the two parties during the June protests, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul stated that he will personally analyze the documents in a fair and transparent manner.
RS247 – The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Tarso Genro (PT) met with leaders of the PSOL party on Thursday morning (3), at Palácio Piratini, to discuss the police operation, which investigates alleged acts of violence and vandalism by members of the party and the PSTU in the protests that took place in June. After representatives of the two parties asked for the immediate dismissal of the police investigation, the governor said that he will personally analyze the police investigations in a fair and transparent manner.
"Just because someone belongs to a political party doesn't mean they can't commit a common crime; that doesn't exempt anyone. And the fact that someone belongs to a party shouldn't be used as a tool for conducting an investigation with political aims," declared the Workers' Party member. (Source: Correio do Povo)
According to the governor, the objective of the inquiry is to verify whether the activists mentioned in the investigation were detained because of their political stance or if it was actually for some crime. "If they were mentioned because of their activism, the inquiry is completely wrong. If that wasn't the case, if they actually committed a crime and there is proof, they should be held accountable like any ordinary citizen. We repudiate any police action that has a political purpose, and also any accusation against our government in relation to this," he said.
The manager also said that there was no bias in the investigation. "It's an investigation against individuals, not related to political parties. There has been no, there will be no, and we will not tolerate any kind of political interference in this police investigation," he declared.
