The mayor of Teresina, Firmino Filho (PSDB), confirmed the increase in the city's bus fare from R$ 2,75 to R$ 3,30, a 20% increase. The city hall justified the increase by citing various costs, such as the salaries of the system's employees, which rose by 33,7%, and the price of the vehicles, which became 15,24% more expensive.

Piauí 247 - The mayor of Teresina, Firmino Filho (PSDB), confirmed the increase in the city's bus fare from R$ 2,75 to R$ 3,30, a 20% increase. The city hall justified the increase by citing various costs, such as the salaries of the system's employees, which rose by 33,7%, and the price of the vehicles, which became 15,24% more expensive. The fare for students will remain frozen at R$ 1,05.

The decision to freeze the student fare contradicted the position of the Municipal Transportation Council, which had set an adjustment from R$ 1,05 to R$ 1,15. According to the administrative and financial director of the Municipal Transportation and Traffic Superintendence (Strans) and member of the Council, Ricardo Freitas, it was not possible to continue with the student fare frozen.

The city hall of Teresina did not explain why the head of the municipal executive decided to continue freezing student bus fares. The student fare is 32% of the regular fare.

Unlike the half-price fare charged in most cities, in Teresina students will pay only one-third of the normal price.
