Cemig's tariff will have one of the smallest drops in the country.

According to percentages released by Aneel (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency), reductions in electricity bills for residential consumers range from 25,94% (the largest decrease, from Uhenpal in Rio Grande do Sul) to 18%. In the case of Cemig (Minas Gerais' electricity company), the tariff reduction will be 18,14%. The Secretary of Finance of Minas Gerais estimates a loss of R$ 472 million in ICMS (Value-Added Tax) revenue.

Cemig's tariff will have one of the smallest drops in the country.

Minas 247 - At least among residential consumers, those in Minas Gerais will have less reason to celebrate the reduction in energy tariffs. According to percentages released by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the drop in the bill for Cemig customers will be 18,14%. This is one of the lowest percentage drops. The regulatory agency has not yet set the percentage drops for each distributor in the case of industrial consumers. According to the federal government, the reduction could reach 32% for this group.

In Minas Gerais, the Secretary of Finance, Leonardo Colombini, estimated a loss of R$ 472 million in revenue from the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) levied on electricity. However, he expects to recover this revenue with the increase in energy consumption from production.

The calculation by Aneel (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency) took into account factors such as the size of the concessionaire and the origin of the energy it purchases. According to the agency, the fact that Cemig (a Brazilian energy company) did not renew its concessions did not influence the percentage decrease in the tariff. Cemig declined to comment on the reduction in bills, but at the end of last year, the company had already stated that it would implement a cost-cutting plan. In addition to this decrease, the concessionaire expects Aneel to determine another reduction in tariffs, resulting from the third tariff review cycle that takes place until April.
