Bahia 247 - Known for his sharp tongue, state representative Targino Machado (DEM) was unable to attend the Legislative Assembly this week because he is recovering from heart surgery, but he did not fail to express his opinion on the new phase of Operation Lava Jato, which is now investigating 54 politicians in a bribery scheme involving construction companies in contracts with Petrobras.

In an article, the Democrat calls for the removal of former Minister of Cities and former federal deputy Mario Negromonte from the Court of Accounts of Municipalities of Bahia (TCM), where he has held a position as advisor since 2013, appointed by then-governor Jaques Wagner. Negromonte is identified by money launderer Alberto Youssef as the biggest beneficiary of the PP party. According to the lobbyist, the former deputy from Bahia received between R$ 250 and R$ 500 per month.

Targino recalls that he was the only congressman "to speak out against" Negromonte's nomination to the agency. "I even called the attention of the congressmen to the fact that it would be like appointing a vampire to manage a blood bank. I was outvoted. They appointed a fox to guard the henhouse," the congressman wrote.

He calls Negromonte a "bandit" and accuses him of "extorting mayors to sell favorable opinions for the approval of their accounts."

Mario Negromonte responded: "Everyone in Bahia knows the character and past life of Congressman Targino Machado. What he is saying about me he will have to prove in court."
