Brasilia – The plenary of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) unanimously upheld today (4) the sentence of former federal deputy Pedro Corrêa (PP-PE) in Criminal Action 470, the mensalão trial. The ministers of the Court rejected all appeals from the former national president of the PP, who was sentenced to seven years and two months for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering.

During the trial, Justices Ricardo Lewandowski and Marco Aurélio noted a contradiction in the base sentence set for the crime of passive corruption. The judgment, the final text of the ruling, stated that the sentence would be one year above the legal minimum, that is, two years and six months. However, the justices concluded that the error did not alter the final sentence and followed the vote of the reporting justice, Joaquim Barbosa, in rejecting the appeals.

This is the seventh session exclusively for judging the motions for clarification, appeals used to correct omissions or contradictions in the judgment. Since the beginning of the trial, on August 14th, the Supreme Court has denied appeals from 20 of the 25 defendants.
