Supreme Court Justice Luís Roberto Barroso authorized the transfer of advertising executive Marcos Valério, sentenced to 37 years in prison in the Mensalão corruption scandal (Action 470), to a prison in Lagoa da Prata, Minas Gerais. Valério is currently serving his sentence at the Nelson Hungria penitentiary in Contagem, Minas Gerais.

The transfer request was made by the advertising executive's defense, which alleged that he is in the process of negotiating a plea bargain with the Attorney General's Office (PGR), where he intends to implicate "renowned people" in the political and business spheres. According to his defense, Valério has already written 78 annexes.

"These documents are extremely important; they will prove that some politicians received bribes, and they will reveal how some parties received money through undeclared funds, and which companies were responsible for making and transferring payments to the parties," says the defense.

Confidential information

According to the petition, prison security officers began leafing through the pages of the notebooks in which Valério writes his confessions, putting "highly confidential information" at risk.

Furthermore, the lawyers argued that the advertising executive's 80-year-old mother is physically and financially unable to visit him in the prison where her son is being held.
