Supreme Court postpones trial of João Paulo for misconduct.

Federal deputy and former mayor of Recife, João Paulo (PT), was scheduled to be judged this Thursday by the Supreme Federal Court, but the case was postponed, among other reasons, due to lack of time; the parliamentarian, one of the main leaders of the PT in Pernambuco, is accused by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office of administrative misconduct due to a waiver of bidding when he was in charge of the Recife City Hall; the rapporteur of Criminal Action 559 is Minister Dias Toffoli, former lawyer for the PT.

Supreme Court postpones trial of João Paulo for misconduct.

PE247 - The Supreme Federal Court postponed the trial of Criminal Action 559, filed by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office against federal deputy João Paulo (PT). The reason? Lack of time. Former mayor of Recife, João Paulo is accused by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) of administrative misconduct due to a waiver of bidding procedures when he was in charge of the Recife City Hall.

In the lawsuit, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) requests "punitive action to convict the defendant for the criminal act imputed to him," for contracting the Institute for Applied Social Research (IPSA) without a bidding process when other companies were interested. The rapporteur for Criminal Action 559 is Minister Dias Toffoli, former lawyer for the Workers' Party.

João Paulo, one of the main leaders of the PT (Workers' Party) in Pernambuco, claims that the hiring was done with legal basis and alleges "absence of responsibility of the defendant for the hiring of IPSA," as well as denying that there was any damage to public funds. Since the former mayor was elected federal deputy in 2010, the case was split, and the criminal action will be judged in the first instance by other defendants cited in the process who do not have the prerogative of being tried in the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
