Bahia 247 - "The last one out turns off the light." This expression, according to the DEM candidate for governor of the state, Paulo Souto, has become "popular and recurring" in Itamaraju, a city in the far south of Bahia. According to the Democrat, the "exodus" of local political leaders from the government base to support him "is general." Mayor Pedro de Campineira, from the PSD of Vice-Governor Otto Alencar, is leading the movement in support of the opposition ticket.

Along with Campineira, city councilors and leaders from PSD, PT, PR, PP, and PC do B personally formalized their support for Souto at the Democrat's political office in Salvador. The group included municipal representatives from all the parties that form the alliance supporting the PT candidate to succeed Governor Jaques Wagner, Rui Costa.

"We are with Paulo Souto because he is the best for Bahia," justified the mayor of Itamaraju, alongside his deputy Luiz Mário, from the PP party of Rui's running mate, João Leão.

Remembering that he was the PT's vice-mayor in the city and has always been loyal to the alliance, Pedro Campineira said that now, the treatment of his administration by PT members is one of total disrespect. "They don't even respect their own allies who occupy five secretariats in my government. Everyone is a victim of the PT's radicalism."

Dissatisfaction with Governor Jaques Wagner's treatment of the region is reflected in the City Council, where 11 of the 15 councilors support Paulo Souto.

The president of the House, Rubens do Hospital (PR), led the group of councilors who came to Salvador, composed of Jânio, Adriano Pinaffo, Luis Pita, Evandro de Jesus and Mazuk, in addition to the secretary Lucilene Curvelo and the leaders Dai, former PT militant, and Flávio Nascimento.
