Sindpol denounces chaos at the Flagrant Crimes Center.

Inaugurated amidst much fanfare just over two months ago, the Central Flagrant Crimes Unit in Maceió is already showing structural problems, according to the Civil Police Agents Union (Sindpol). There is overcrowding of prisoners, unsanitary conditions, and precarious conditions that put the lives of professionals at risk.

Alagoas247 - On Monday morning (9), Sindpol and the Association of Police Delegates (Adepol) will meet to discuss what measures to take to face the chaotic scenario, as they described it. According to Sindpol, due to overcrowding of prisoners - 22 people divided into three cells with two square meters each - the sewage and sanitary network was completely compromised, thus collapsing, in addition to causing an infectious leak of waste on the ground floor of the Central building.

Because of this, according to Sindpol (the police union), it was necessary to close down registry offices and other departments. The officers warn that the Central Flagrant Unit has become unhealthy and unsafe for civil police officers, prisoners, and the public. Another situation that calls into question the Civil Police leadership's discourse concerns the treatment of prisoners, who should only be held temporarily.

According to the union, the inmates – who currently shower using a hose – remain in their cells permanently, when they should only be in a temporary position within the prison system.

At Monday's meeting, agents and delegates may conclude that it is not safe to work at the Flagrant Crimes Center if there is no effective response from the State.
