On the 21 - There is still no official tally of participation on the first day of the civil police strike in Rio Grande do Sul, neither from the government nor from the union, but the president of Ugeirm (Union of Clerks, Inspectors and Investigators of the Civil Police of RS), Isaac Ortiz, speaks of high participation in all regions of the state. "The information we are receiving indicates a large mobilization," he says.

According to Ortiz, the strike is demonstrating strength because it is a strike built with the entire category and not an "invention of the union." "This disregard for Public Security by the Sartori government was also orchestrated," he states.

On this first day of the strike, Ortiz states that the recommendation for Civil Police officers is to go to the police stations and assist all people who seek police help, informing them about the strike and attending to all crimes against the elderly, children, women, and against life. "What will not be done is the clerical work, investigations, operations, arrests, and the handling of minor offenses," he says.

When contacted, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and the Civil Police Command stated that they do not have their own data on strike participation. In a statement, the SSP said it expects police officers to maintain services "fully operational, so as not to jeopardize the safety of citizens in Rio Grande do Sul."

The statement also recalls that, in April of this year, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) ruled that professionals in the field cannot go on strike nationwide, which could be countered by the fact that police officers are being advised to report to work, and that security personnel were the only ones to receive salary adjustments during José Ivo Sartori's administration – totaling 38% since 2015, but this is an adjustment granted by law approved in the previous government and a measure criticized by the current administration on several occasions, with the possibility of not honoring the installments of this increase even being used as a strong pressure tactic to demobilize protests by the categories in the area.
