Silvão calls for open vote in Congress for impeachment.

After 19 senators voted against the removal from office of former Democrat Demóstenes Torres, the federal deputy from Pernambuco is appealing for this type of vote to be made public in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

Leonardo Lucena_PE247 – Federal Deputy Silvio Costa (PTB-PE) reiterated his support for open voting in the National Congress only in cases concerning the removal of mandates. The congressman argues that the fact that 19 senators voted against the impeachment of former Senator Demóstenes Torres proves that this format, contrary to public opinion, cannot continue to be used.

"Unfortunately, a portion of the Federal Senate voted against public opinion. And none of them took responsibility. That's why I defend this type of open vote," said Silvio Costa.

In the Senate plenary session, former Democrat Demóstenes Torres presented the counter-argument that, in several other corruption cases, the accused had the right to defend themselves, something that he (Torres) did not have. According to Costa, this information is incorrect.

"The former senator had every chance to defend himself, both in the Ethics Committee, the Constitution and Justice Committee, and in the Plenary. His statement is just more 'cynicism'." He can't complain about anything, the PTB member stated. During Demóstenes Torres' testimony at a meeting of the Cachoeira Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, Silvio Costa called the former Democrat a liar.

On the other hand, the former senator has already announced that he will try to appeal to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), as he posted on his Twitter, stating that his mandate was revoked without evidence.
