Staff 'invade' General Hospital
State health workers occupied the corridors of the Alagoas State General Hospital. Their objective was to speak with management about the dismissal of a female employee. There was a disturbance and allegations of assault.
Alagoas247 - After a general assembly, state health workers occupied the corridors of the State General Hospital (HGE) on Thursday morning (30), to try to speak with director Verônica Maria Leite Omena and get explanations from her about the dismissal of an employee who is also a member of the Union of Workers in Social Security and Labor in the State of Alagoas (Sindprev/AL). A commotion formed and some employees reported that they were assaulted.
Union representatives claim that nursing technician Olga Chagas was removed from her duties and describe the measure as persecution. The employee reportedly denounced the working conditions at the HGE (General Hospital of the State) and was subsequently dismissed from the hospital unit.
People crowded into the General Hospital, the Agreste Emergency Unit, the Santa Mônica Maternity School, the Hélvio Auto Teaching Hospital, and mini-emergency rooms who were participating in the assembly this morning decided to seek clarification from the director, and some of them were restrained. The director's anteroom was filled with employees.
At least two employees who were participating in the protest reported being assaulted as they prepared to occupy the director's office. One complained that his glasses were broken, and another showed an injury to his hand.
Gazetaweb's reporting captured the moment when the employees entered the administrative wing of the HGE (Hospital Geral do Estado). The unit's director initially requested that the police be called, but later decided to meet with a committee to explain what had happened with the suspended employee.
During the meeting, the Human Resources department presented a document explaining what happened with employee Olga Chagas. She will be transferred and, at the beginning of next month, should find out which unit she will be assigned to. According to the HGE (General Hospital of the State), the reason for her removal was rude behavior on the part of the employee, but the union claims it is nothing more than harassment.
"This is an internal matter, within the department. Her department head requested leave. And I can't question the hierarchy. I'm simply respecting the leadership," explained Verônica Omena.
