Alagoas247 - The staff of the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal) blocked, on the morning of this Tuesday (3), the entrance to the AC Simões Campus, located in the Cidade Universitária neighborhood, in Maceió, following a national strike. The category is protesting against the 30% cut in education and launching the demands of the 2015 salary campaign.

In the capital of Alagoas, the nationwide protest is expected to continue until early afternoon this Tuesday. Buses and cars have been prohibited from entering the university. Traffic is slow in the surrounding area. Pedestrians are circulating normally on campus.

According to the general coordinator of the Union of Workers of Ufal (Sintufal), Jeamerson Santos, the act was decided in a unified way in an assembly that took place this Monday (2), in all federal universities.

"The protest is taking place due to the nationwide closure of universities. We have objectives, and one of them is the mobilization of the unified campaign of federal employees, which was decided upon by the Forum of Entities of Workers of the Federal Public Service," informed Jeamerson Santos.

The union also denounces that since the last strike in 2014, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) has ordered the federal government to negotiate with the administrative and technical staff of the institutions. However, to date, the government has not taken a position in favor of the workers.

"The act is a stance against the measures that the federal government has been taking. One of them is the 30% cut for education. We are at the entrance of Ufal, with a whole structure set up - banners, sound truck, chairs, tent - to make a speech about an old issue, which the government already knows, such as the bills that take away the rights of public employees. We will launch our proposals to advance the rights of public employees," added Santos.
