"Sergipe is a thriving state that stands out on the national stage."

In presenting the report on the Government's actions on Monday afternoon (18), Déda highlighted data from a State that is growing more than the average for the Northeast region, with figures on social inclusion, job creation and structural works.

"Sergipe is a thriving state that stands out on the national stage."

Sergipe News Agency – Governor Marcelo Déda participated in the opening of the legislative session at the Legislative Assembly of Sergipe (AL/SE) on Monday afternoon, the 18th. This is the seventh time Déda has attended the first legislative session of the year. On the occasion, he highlighted the independence of the Executive and Legislative branches and presented the economic and social advancements of Sergipe during his administration.

During the opening of the session, the Speaker of the House, Representative Angélica Guimarães, emphasized the democratic nature of the governor's presence. "Your Excellency's visit to this parliament marks a new stage in the relationship between the Legislative and Executive branches. All members of this branch value, above all, the interests of Sergipe and the well-being of its people," she said.

“In appearing before this House, I affirm that if there are achievements to celebrate in my Government, as demonstrated in the 2012 Activity Report, I must share them with the people of Sergipe, with the constitutionally autonomous powers and institutions, and with the political representation of Sergipe, in this House and in the Houses of Congress, without distinguishing between allies or adversaries. Now what matters is that we have found the way and we are all together removing the obstacles that prevented the approval of Proinveste, without worrying about finding culprits for past mistakes, but aware that we will all be victorious for the fruits that the people of Sergipe will reap in the future,” declared Marcelo Déda.

The economic progress of Sergipe in the last six years, the generation of employment in the State, the recovery of the road infrastructure and the growth of agriculture and livestock, thus strengthening the economy of the interior and the opportunity to boost the development of the state through Proinveste, guided Marcelo Déda's speech.

“Sergipe is a thriving state, standing out on the national stage with positive news in virtually all sectors of its economy. The Government of Sergipe has managed to maintain the course of administration, the pace of investments, and the provision of services. This is how we ensured the achievement of our goals for economic development with social inclusion. It wasn't easy, of course. But the result is that, even with such a serious crisis during much of our time leading the State Government, in these six years of hard work we have laid solid foundations for the development of Sergipe and are already beginning to reap the rewards,” the governor highlighted.

Social inclusion

One of the indicators that measures the social growth of the people of Sergipe is the removal of 81.797 citizens from extreme poverty. In 2006, 195.563 people were in this condition, with a per capita income of less than R$ 70. In 2011, this number fell to 113.766.

“We promoted social inclusion as one of the main goals of this Government, lifting 81.797 people from Sergipe out of extreme poverty, respecting their rights and guaranteeing them new income opportunities. In other words, 41,8% of the people from Sergipe who were living in extreme poverty escaped that condition. This means that the state of Sergipe, in five years, between 2006 and 2011, rescued almost half of the people from extreme poverty who were in this humiliating condition. We strengthened the internal economy and created the conditions for continued growth. We provided the State with a more solid and diverse infrastructure, such as a new and ever-expanding road network that integrates the various regions of the State while also expanding Sergipe's access to the Northeast and the rest of the country,” stated Déda.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure projects, such as the Gilberto Amado bridge inaugurated on the 29th, and the rehabilitation of the road network demonstrate the State Government's commitment to promoting development in the interior of the state, connecting the regions of Sergipe and thus facilitating sectors such as tourism and commerce.

"On January 29th, we inaugurated one of the most important structural works carried out in Sergipe in recent years: the Gilberto Amado Bridge. At 1.712 meters long, the largest river bridge in the Northeast, its grandeur lies not only in its concrete structure and length. Its greatest significance lies in the fact that it enabled the integration of the southern coast of Sergipe with the Linha Verde (Green Line) in Bahia, one of the most important distribution axes for tourism in the Northeast. The Gilberto Amado Bridge is one of several projects aimed at improving the tourism infrastructure of the southern region of the state of Sergipe, previously delivered during our administration, such as the earthworks, granite paving, and rainwater drainage in the Caueira village; the inauguration of Highway SE-285, connecting the villages of Convento and Pontal in Indiaroba, inaugurated throughout 2012; and, of course, the Joel Silveira Bridge, inaugurated in 2010. It was also delivered to the population in..." "In 2012, the asphalt paving of highway SE-488, a 27 km long road that connects the municipalities of Indiaroba and Umbaúba, was completed," enumerated the head of the state executive branch.

Job Generation

The decentralization of job and income generation was also mentioned. According to data from the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed Workers (Caged), between 2007 and 2012, formal employment in the Northeast grew by 46%, an annual average of 6,5%, while Brazil's growth was 39%, an average of 5,6%. In Sergipe, the rates are 53% or 7,3% per year, representing the second highest growth in the Northeast.

“The interior began to offer opportunities: between 2003 and 2006, Sergipe registered the creation of 41.800 formal jobs, with 26 in Aracaju and 15 in the interior. In the period between 2007 and 2010, 63 jobs were generated, with 33 in Aracaju and 34 in the interior; that is, the interior surpassed the job creation of the capital, which represents a better distribution of income generation and social and economic development,” Déda exemplified.
