Sergipe 247 - Amid the controversy that arose after Pastor Marco Feliciano (PSC-SP) assumed the presidency of the Human Rights and Minorities Commission of the Federal Chamber, the State of Sergipe stands out as the only one in the entire country to have an exclusive secretariat dedicated to the subject. The State Secretariat for Human Rights and Citizenship (Sedhuc) was created less than two years ago by Governor Marcelo Déda (PT).

According to researcher Antônio Carlos dos Reis from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), responsible for groundbreaking research on the subject based on data provided by the states, “Human Rights is a topic that has been addressed recently. Brazil has chronic problems with human rights compared to other countries in the world. It is necessary to see the issue as a reality and implement actions,” he stated to Jornal da Cidade.

According to the Secretary of the Department, Luiz Eduardo Oliva, it is possible to develop Action Plans focused on the theme of respect for human rights. “In addition to developing the PPA – Pluriannual Plan 2011/2014, and an action plan, we have put together a strategic plan, which, besides being based on the Guiding Principles of the National Human Rights Plan (PNDH-3), proposes for this year 2013 an agenda of discussions, debates and seminars for the elaboration of our State Human Rights Plan (PEDH-1). We already have a Plan, and now we will move towards the elaboration of the State Human Rights Program of the State of Sergipe. Thus, we will continue to advance in the state policy on human rights,” explained Oliva, according to the news outlet.
