Without federal funding, the milk program is cut in half.

The Milk Program in Alagoas is in a dramatic situation due to delays in funding from the Michel Temer government, which is responsible for allocating R$ 30 million annually to the state. The problem is that the payments have been delayed since May, causing the program to be reduced by half. Under normal circumstances, it generates income for more than 4 small producers and benefits more than 80 families who receive one liter of milk per day. With the lack of resources, they now receive a maximum of four liters per week. The producers' cooperative is complaining about the situation.

Alagoas 247 - Cooperatives from Alagoas that are part of the Milk Program met in Maceió, this Monday (18), with the Minister of Tourism Marx Beltrão to discuss the progress of the program in Alagoas, which has been experiencing delays in federal funding since May, which has led to the program being reduced by half. The meeting was held in the auditorium of the Alagoas Milk Production Cooperative (CPLA), in the Trapiche neighborhood.

The Milk Program has been going through a dramatic phase due to delays in funding from the federal government, which is responsible for allocating R$ 30 million to Alagoas annually. The State Government is responsible for transferring R$ 7 million. This year, the program operated solely with state funds.

Under normal circumstances, the Milk Program generates income for more than 4 small producers and benefits more than 80 families who receive one liter of milk per day. With the lack of resources, this has now dropped to a maximum of four liters per week.

The president of CPLA, Aldemar Monteiro, affirms that he is fighting to prevent the program from ending, but that without the transfer of funds, it cannot continue. "The cooperatives are strangled. Six installments of federal funding are overdue from the federal government, which makes the continuation of the program unfeasible, in addition to the political crisis that destabilizes the sector," he assesses.

During the meeting this Monday, Minister Marx Beltrão reported that he discussed the situation of dairy cooperatives in Alagoas with President Michel Temer and the Minister of Social and Agrarian Development, Omar Terra, and that it was agreed that R$ 7,5 million would be transferred within the next 15 days.

The minister also highlighted the importance of the program: "It is important in several aspects: social, economic, and in generating employment and income. There are thousands of elderly people, pregnant women, and children who need milk daily to survive. It is an aid to reduce infant mortality in Alagoas and maintain job creation," he said.
