247 - With Globo contract termination With the Campeonato Carioca (Rio de Janeiro State Championship), RedeTV! is looking to make the broadcast of the tournament viable. RedeTV! was the first free-to-air TV channel to broadcast a game after the suspension of football due to the pandemic: the Turkish Championship, on June 13th.

The termination announcement was made by Globo on Thursday, the 2nd, after Flamengo's channel, FlaTV, having shown the game against Boavista on Wednesday (1st) via YouTube.

Judge Ricardo Couto de Castro's decision, on Thursday (2), granted the injunction which would prevent a new broadcast of Flamengo on its channel and stated that the club would have to pay a fine of R$ 2 million for showing or re-showing the game against Boavista. The judge argued that although Flamengo does not have a broadcasting rights contract with Globo, Boavista does, and this would prevent them from broadcasting.

However, the Flamengo club claims that it based its decision on... provisional measure signed by Jair Bolsonaro This removes Globo's exclusivity in broadcasting football matches. Provisional Measure 984 makes the "arena rights" exclusive to the home team in sporting events. Therefore, the club playing at home will have the broadcasting rights for the events. The Rio de Janeiro club Vasco da Gama also broadcast its Thursday game against Madureira on its YouTube channel, taking advantage of the end of its contract with Globo.

The bill, despite harming Globo, ended up being criticized by some who argue that making "arena rights" exclusive to the home team will favor the big teams, while the smaller teams will stop earning money from broadcasting games, as they will have more difficulty selling advertising space.
