Goiás247 - Governor Marconi Perillo signed this Tuesday afternoon (19), in a ceremony at Palácio das Esmeraldas, the official document authorizing the registration of prices for the contracting of 500 video surveillance cameras to be installed at strategic points in the capital. The cost of the operation is estimated at R$ 60,9 million.

The new video cameras will reinforce the patrolling already carried out by 70 devices in operation and another 80 from the "Crack is Possible to Overcome" program. In total, 35 neighborhoods will benefit from electronic surveillance. "It's as if we had 650 police officers on permanent duty, watching over homes and businesses," compared the Secretary of Public Security, Joaquim Mesquita. The winning company in the bidding process will be announced on September 3rd.

The new investments that the State is making with the aim of reducing the number of robberies, assaults, homicides and other crimes are part of the Goiás Safe Citizen Program and are integrated into the Friendly Eye Project.

"This is a concrete response from Goiás' security agencies to a society that rightfully demands more peace and an effective security policy that truly offers tranquility and reasons to feel safe," the governor declared during the ceremony.

He emphasized that this year the capital's policing was reinforced by 1.400 more police officers and that, on the 18th, another 1.800 military personnel who took the entrance exam and are finishing their training course will be integrated into the security forces in the metropolitan region. "Not to mention the Civil Police force. If we add the two together, we'll have close to two thousand new police officers on the streets of Goiânia," he pointed out.

The integration of 600 more video surveillance cameras in the capital's neighborhoods, argues the governor, "means making the changes that security needs, with our feet on the ground, with planning and a vision for the future. It's no use saying you're going to do this or that without knowing what you're talking about. This is not an area to play around with, to engage in demagoguery."

“We are doing our part. No one will hear a single word from me that suggests demagoguery or politicking in the handling of public safety issues. What needs to be done, we are doing. What will happen is the fulfillment of all these strategic actions that are under development or committed to,” he concluded.
