Secretary of Education signs document outlining guidelines for Rural Education.

The guidelines are the result of work developed by the Permanent Commission on Rural Education and cover topics such as the training of rural teachers, school transportation, and student meals. According to Professor Emeritus Miguel Arroyo of the Federal University of Minas Gerais and researcher on the subject, the document is the fruit of the protagonism of the rural population; "Rural people do not wait for guidelines imposed by the government. They assert themselves as political and policy-making subjects. These guidelines were developed by themselves, and this is very important," he emphasized.

Minas Agency - The development of actions aimed at an education that engages with the reality of the rural population. This is one of the objectives of the 'Operational Guidelines for Rural Education in Minas Gerais', a document signed this Wednesday (May 27) by the Secretary of State for Education, Macaé Evaristo.

"We have a diversity of situations in the field, and it is essential that the education developed in these communities is of high quality and reflects the local reality. The challenges are many, but having a specific regulatory framework helps us in building a truly inclusive policy," the secretary highlighted.

The guidelines are the result of work developed by the Permanent Commission on Rural Education and cover topics such as the training of rural teachers, school transportation, and student nutrition. According to Professor Emeritus Miguel Arroyo of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, a researcher on the subject, the document is the fruit of the active participation of the rural population.

"The rural communities don't wait for directives imposed by the government. They assert themselves as political and policy-making subjects. These guidelines were developed by themselves, and that's very important," he emphasized.

The document will be a landmark that will guide the programs and projects of municipalities and the State itself in their work with rural schools, and will also serve as a way to foster discussions with social movements, communities, and actors directly involved in the topic. With the signing, the document will be forwarded to the State Board of Education for consideration.

According to the president of the Education, Science and Technology Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, Deputy Paulo Lamac, the guidelines represent progress for the state after years of regression.

"This is a milestone, a political turning point in Minas Gerais, so that we can value the population that lives in the countryside. It is necessary to be clear that having a rural education that prepares people is not a cost. It is an investment and a necessity," assesses the president of the Commission.
