Alagoas 247 - The state government has declared a state of emergency for 180 days in 40 municipalities in Alagoas due to the drought. The decree was published in the State Official Gazette (DOE) this Wednesday (24).

According to the publication, Governor Renan Filho (PMDB) believes that it is the State's responsibility "to preserve the well-being of the population and the socioeconomic activities of regions affected by adverse events."

It also takes into account the reduction in rainfall that continues to plague the municipalities of the semi-arid region of Alagoas, in addition to the impacts resulting from significant losses in agriculture and livestock farming in the region.

For this reason, an abnormal situation due to drought is declared, characterized as a state of emergency, for a period of 180 days, in the municipalities of Água Branca, Arapiraca, Batalha, Belo Monte, Cacimbinhas, Canapi, Carneiros, Coite do Nóia, Craíbas, Delmiro Gouveia, Dois Riachos, Estrela de Alagoas, Girau do Ponciano, Igaci, Igreja Nova, Inhapi, Jacaré dos Homens, Jaramataia, Lagoa da Canoa, Major Izidoro, Maravilha, Mata Grande and Minador do Negrão.

The government has also declared a state of emergency in the cities of Monteirópolis, Olho D'Água das Flores, Olho d'Água do Casado, Olivença, Ouro Branco, Palestina, Palmeira dos Índios, Pão de Açúcar, Pariconha, Poço das Trincheiras, Piranhas, Quebrangulo, Santana do Ipanema, São Braz, São José da Tapera, Senador Rui Palmeira, and Traipu.

The state of emergency is valid only for the areas of the municipalities mentioned in the decree, demonstrably affected by the disaster, as evidenced by the Damage Information Forms (Fide). State agencies located in the affected areas will adopt the necessary measures – together with municipal agencies – to address the emergency situation.
