The World Bank (IBRD) director for Brazil, Martin Raiser, presented this Thursday (18), in Florianópolis (SC), the results of the study Resuming the Path to Inclusion, Growth and Sustainability, which will guide the financial institution's strategies for the coming years. Governor José Ivo Sartori was at the ceremony which discussed the country's achievements, as well as the main challenges to ensure the maintenance of these advances. He was received by the governor of Santa Catarina, Raimundo Colombo.
In the debate, Sartori stated that changing the current Brazilian scenario – characterized by high unemployment and a stagnant economy – requires a collective effort. "It's necessary to improve management and the efficiency of spending. The public sector alone cannot handle all its responsibilities," he affirmed. The governor outlined the measures the state has taken to achieve sustainability and thanked the World Bank for its support through the Proredes Bird program, which contributes to improved management and offers financing lines for improvements in schools and roads.
Sartori also presented the management model based on indicators and goals, the Results Agreement, and highlighted important measures such as Supplementary Pension and the State Fiscal Responsibility Law – an action that serves as a reference for other states in the federation. "The changes we are making will make Rio Grande do Sul more modern, sustainable, and with qualified services. This is how we will attract new entrepreneurs," he stated.
The Secretary-General of the Government, Carlos Búrigo, considers the meeting vital for strengthening institutional relations. "We have consolidated partnerships with the World Bank and intend to expand this link to overcome infrastructure bottlenecks, especially in the strategic road axes leading to the Port of Rio Grande, as well as to enhance the waterway transport mode," he said. Búrigo also discussed with Raiser the restructuring of public management in Rio Grande do Sul and the implementation of a governance system aimed at providing more efficient responses to society.
Finally, Sartori invited the World Bank director to Brazil so that the debate on the national economic scenario and its prospects could also take place in Rio Grande do Sul.
