Sarney is discharged from the hospital.

The Senate President left the Sírio-Libanês Hospital at 11:25 am; he will stay another week in São Paulo for recovery.

Brazil Agency - The president of the Senate, José Sarney (PMDB-AP), was discharged at 11:25 am today (24), from the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in São Paulo, where he had been hospitalized since the 14th. According to the parliamentarian's press office, on medical advice, he will remain for another week in the capital of São Paulo for recovery and only after this period will he return to parliamentary activities. The possibility of the senator undergoing further tests is not ruled out.

Sarney was hospitalized after experiencing severe chest pains. He underwent a catheterization and angioplasty to place stents (small tubes to maintain the dilation of arteries).

During Sarney's absence, the positions of president of the National Congress and the Senate are held, respectively, by the first vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rose de Freitas (PMDB-ES), and Senator Marta Suplicy (PT-SP).
