Sandoval authorizes the swearing-in of new firefighters.

Governor Sandoval Cardoso authorized the appointment of candidates who passed the public competition for the initial filling of positions as Soldiers in the Military Firefighters Corps; the soldiers were approved in the competition held at the end of 2013, which offered 100 vacancies, divided into 90 for men and 10 for women; "The soldiers will be allocated to all locations where we have fire stations that will serve the entire State," emphasized the general commander of the Fire Department, Colonel Erli Lemes; in addition to personnel, the government invested R$ 27 million in equipment, such as a 60-meter Magirus ladder.

Tocantins 247 - Governor Sandoval Cardoso authorized this week the appointment of candidates qualified in the public competition for the initial filling of positions as Soldier in the Military Firefighter Corps. The future soldiers are in the sixth and final stage of the Training Course and, upon completion, their appointment is guaranteed.

The soldiers were approved in the competitive examination held at the end of 2013, which offered 100 positions, divided into 90 for men and 10 for women. According to the general commander of the Fire Department, Colonel Erli Lemes, the services provided by the Fire Department will be strengthened with the new soldiers. "With the new soldiers, we will have much more capacity to operate more intensely. The soldiers will be allocated to all locations where we have fire stations, serving the entire state," he emphasized.

After having already passed through five stages of the selection process, in the sixth stage the students mainly carry out practical activities and anxiously await the moment they will join the Fire Department. Graduating student Eduardo Brandão de Azevedo highlighted that he acquired a great deal of knowledge throughout this period and the guarantee of his appointment seals a victory. "We were uncertain and, with the publication in the Official Gazette, a new energy arose. The people of Tocantins can expect the best possible from our work," he said.

Investments

This year also saw the creation of the 2nd Military Fire Brigade Battalion of the State, headquartered in Araguaína, composed of the following units: the 1st Military Fire Brigade Company, in the municipality of Araguaína, which is already fully operational; the 2nd Company, in the municipality of Colinas do Tocantins; and the 3rd Company, in the municipality of Araguatins. These last two units are still under study and implementation and will serve the northern region of the State.

The state government also invested R$ 27 million in equipment, including a 60-meter Magirus ladder – the world's largest ladder designed for firefighting and rescue vehicles; a vehicle with a 32-meter-high articulated rotating ladder; five Forest Fire Tanker Trucks (ABTR); eight Rescue and Salvage Fire Pump Trucks (ABSR); two rescue platform vehicles; and two quad bikes used for patrolling crowded areas, such as beaches.
