The São Paulo State Basic Sanitation Company (Sabesp) today (15) issued a note to shareholders and the market informing that it will present a proposal for a 22,7% tariff adjustment. "Sabesp's request aims to cover energy costs and a drop in billed volume," the company added.

Sabesp's proposal has already been sent to the São Paulo Sanitation and Energy Regulatory Agency (Arsesp) and will be presented at a public hearing early this evening. With new contributions that may arise during the hearing, the agency will define the new tariff.

According to Sabesp, the proposed readjustment is composed of, among other factors, 7,80% (referring to the IPCA) and 13,82% (increase in energy costs and decrease in billed volume). According to the company, due to the water supply crisis in the state, water production in the São Paulo metropolitan region fell from 70 cubic meters per second (January 2013) to 52 m³/s (January 2015).
