By Raíssa Françca/cadaminuto.com.br - Mayor Rui Palmeira (PSDB) vetoed bill no. 7005 that had been approved in the City Council which deals with the sale and consumption of fermented alcoholic beverages in football stadiums, sports arenas and their surroundings in the city of Maceió. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality (DOM) this Tuesday (05).

According to the publication, the bill, authored by councilman Silvânio Barbosa (PMDB), presents technical flaws. One of the measures foreseen in the Decree for the reduction and prevention of harm caused by alcohol use consists of promoting and facilitating public access to sporting, cultural, and leisure events as alternatives to keep young people away from consuming alcoholic beverages.

According to the decree, the bill goes against the National Alcohol Policy, which aims to reduce alcohol consumption in order to reduce violence and crime. One of the measures foreseen is the promotion and facilitation of public access to sporting events, aiming to discourage people from consuming alcoholic beverages.

"In other words, while the National Alcohol Policy aims to dissociate sporting events from alcohol consumption, Bill No. 7005 intends precisely the opposite, that is, to associate the sporting event with alcohol consumption, which is a step backward," the publication in the Official Gazette shows.

The bill must return to the City Council.
