Rui: 'We want to safeguard people's lives'

Governor Rui Costa, Mayor ACM Neto, and the Minister of National Integration, Gilberto Occhi, gave an interview after flying over Salvador to assess the damage caused by the rain. Rui appealed to residents to vacate properties in at-risk areas; "We appeal to people to leave and they will receive support from the state and municipal governments for social housing. We know that many resist leaving, but we want to ensure people's lives. We will carry out the removal of people with the support of the Army. We are increasing integration between the state, municipal, and federal governments. We have taken over the control center for this purpose."

Bahia 247 - Governor Rui Costa (PT), Mayor ACM Neto (DEM), and the Minister of National Integration, Gilberto Occhi, gave a press conference after flying over Salvador to assess the damage caused by the rain. Rui spoke of 10 more inspection points that demonstrate the need to relocate families due to the risk of collapse.

"We have teams that will visit the affected areas. We appeal to people to leave, and they will receive support from the state and municipal governments for social housing. We know that many are resisting leaving, but we want to ensure people's lives. We will carry out the removal of people with the support of the Army. We are increasing integration between the state, municipal, and federal governments. We have taken over the control center for this purpose," said the governor.

Minister Gilberto Occhi reinforced Rui Costa's request. "My message and that of the president (Dilma Rousseff), who sympathizes with those who have lost loved ones. Our determination is to evacuate the families who are at risk."
