Rui is not afraid of Otto's possible candidacy.
A natural candidate for re-election, Governor Rui Costa (PT) assures that he is not afraid of the possibility of Senator Otto Alencar (PSD) leaving his base and entering the race for the Palácio de Ondina in 2018; in an interview with Metrópole radio, Rui reiterated his confidence in Otto Alencar and spared no praise for the senator, whom he considers "a family friend"; "I don't believe in this relationship where you have to have weak people on your side to always shine. Our government is a model that has been working well in Bahia, where everyone participates, everyone grows, and I feel proud. I've made great friends in politics. (João) Leão (vice-governor) is a great friend. Otto too. We have a personal, family relationship. I'm not surprised by anything. This doesn't frighten me," said Rui.
Romulo Faro/Bahia 247 - A natural candidate for reelection, Governor Rui Costa (PT) assures that he is not afraid of the possibility of Senator Otto Alencar leaving his base and entering the race for the Palácio de Ondina in 2018.
Otto has been considered 'all-powerful' in the political world due to his party, the PSD (Social Democratic Party), having elected the largest number of mayors in Bahia (83 in total) in the 2016 municipal elections. Otto is also credited with the victory of the mayor of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Eures Ribeiro (PSD), for the presidency of the Union of Municipalities of Bahia (UPB), and with the victory of deputy Ângelo Coronel, also from the PSD, to preside over the Legislative Assembly of Bahia (ALBA).
In an interview with Metrópole radio, Rui reiterated his confidence in Otto Alencar and showered the senator with praise, whom he considers "a friend of the family."
"I don't believe in this idea that you have to have weak people on your side to always shine. Those who have faith in God and work hard aren't jealous of people who progress. Our government is a model that has been working well in Bahia, where everyone participates, everyone grows, and I feel proud. I've made great friends in politics. (João) Leão (vice-governor) is a great friend. Otto too. We have a personal, family-like relationship. I'm not fazed by anything. This doesn't frighten me. I'm working and I want everyone to be strong. The traps seem childish, proposing this and that...", the governor stated.
When questioned about a hypothetical scenario in which Mayor ACM Neto (DEM) would give up a possible candidacy to offer his support to Otto, Rui remained calm, but did not miss the opportunity to provoke his opponent.
"I was born on the slopes of Liberdade, not in a playground in Corredor da Vitória. I've traveled too many miles to fall on any banana peel. I know the press exploits this and that... I don't think that whoever forms a political group has to have people under their tutelage or weak allies, some think that way, wanting to shine alone. I think differently. Everything in life is done as a team. I started my life in a company, and from early on I realized, and the company itself had this concept, that the success of the company did not depend on idols but on a team," said Rui.
