On the 21 - On August 15th, a group of PMDB members inaugurated a committee in Porto Alegre to support the re-election candidacy of Vice-President Michel Temer (PMDB), with the presence of the PMDB member. This initiative aligns with the position of the party's national directorate; however, it contradicts the state-level decision of the party. Allied with the PSB in Rio Grande do Sul, the PMDB in that state, which will contest the governorship with José Ivo Sartori, will cede its presidential platform to candidate Eduardo Campos (PSB).

Federal deputy Eliseu Padilha (PMDB), Temer's main interlocutor, says that the space will contain campaign material and will serve as a meeting place for the coordination of political actions. One of the objectives, according to Padilha, is to form pro-Temer committees in other regions of the state. "I don't yet know in how many regions, as it will depend on local mobilization. I know there will be one in Passo Fundo," the deputy adds.

Padilha does not share the idea that the committee can be considered a dissident group within the PMDB party in Rio Grande do Sul. "Only someone who is politically inexperienced would think that. In this case, the dissent is from those who support Eduardo Campos, because they are disagreeing with the national party decision, which has Michel Temer as the vice-presidential candidate," he says.

The committee will also campaign for gubernatorial candidate José Ivo Sartori (PMDB) and his running mate, José Paulo Cairoli (PSD). When questioned about the candidates' attendance at the committee's inauguration at the Piratini Palace, Padilha disputes the idea that a pro-Dilma platform might embarrass them and is confident they will be present. "I've been involved in politics for over 40 years and I've never seen anyone reject support from a considerable part of their party," the congressman emphasizes. The committee will be located on Avenida Farrapos, corner of Rua Garibaldi, in the Floresta neighborhood of Porto Alegre.
