247 - The risk of black people being murdered in Brazil is three times higher than among non-black people, according to the Folha Racial Equity Index (Ifer), which mapped intentional violent deaths in Brazil. For the first time in ten years, the racial disproportion of homicides was recorded in all 27 Brazilian states. For homicides with firearms, the risk is 3,6 times higher for black people. The information was published this Monday (21) by Folha de S.Paulo newspaper

The Ifer, created by economists Alysson Portella, Michael França, and Sergio Firpo, measures the exclusion of Black and mixed-race people from privileged strata of society.

The study was conducted within the scope of the newly created Center for Racial Studies at Insper, using data from 2010 to 2020 from the Ministry of Health's notification systems.
