"Resolution encourages PT members to support Sandoval"

Former president of the PT (Workers' Party) directory in Gurupi, Jair Caetano, described the PT resolution prohibiting members from supporting another coalition as "desperation"; "It's desperation from the state directory, which doesn't discuss it with the base. I even think it's good that they approve the resolution, so the movement grows even more," said Jair; for PT member Iranilto Sales, coordinator of the PT's internal current Articulação de Esquerda (Left Articulation), it is "humiliating" for a PT member to be forced to support Kátia; "It is regrettable, humiliating and disheartening to know that any PT member who does not support Senator Kátia Abreu will be punished with expulsion from the Party"; the majority of the Gurupi directory has already declared support for Sandoval; dissatisfaction among PT members in the capital is also great.

Tocantins 247 - The decision by the state president of the PT (Workers' Party), Júlio César Brasil, to prohibit members from supporting candidates from coalitions other than "Experience Makes the Change" has generated protests within the party. The former president of the PT's Gurupi branch, Jair Caetano, described the measure as "desperation" and argues that the action "encourages PT members" to support the reelection of Governor Sandoval Cardoso (SD), from the coalition "The Change We See".

“We are calm. It's a desperate situation on the part of the state leadership, which isn't discussing things with the rank and file. I even think it's good that they approve the resolution, so the movement grows even more,” Jair Caetano told CT (read hereThe former president of the PT (Workers' Party) directory in Gurupi reaffirmed his intention to support the re-election of Sandoval Cardoso and downplayed the state leadership's action. "They [the regional directory] can do what they want. This resolution is simply a way of responding; we have no interest whatsoever. We made the decision with our colleagues, and we will support the governor," he ratified.

Another PT member dissatisfied with the obligation for party members to support the candidacy of Marcelo Miranda, and especially the re-election candidacy of Senator Kátia Abreu, both from the PMDB, is Iranilto Sales, coordinator of the PT's internal faction Articulação de Esquerda (Left Articulation). In a statement sent to the press this Monday, the 4th, Iranilto recalled that the causes defended by Kátia have long been opposed by PT activists. "Senator Kátia Abreu has always fought against minorities, acts in Congress against indigenous peoples, against rural workers, against the environment, against the poorest in general, defending the exhaustive exploitation of both natural resources and human beings," he stated.

Iranilto was one of the three PT members who signed an appeal sent to the PT's National Executive Committee, questioning the decision of the Tocantins PT to renounce the vice-governor position on Miranda's ticket in order to take the first alternate position for Kátia Abreu (read more).

For Iranilto, it is "humiliating" for a member of the Workers' Party (PT) to be forced to support Kátia. "It is regrettable, humiliating, and disheartening to know that any PT member who does not support Senator Kátia Abreu will be punished with expulsion from the Party they carry in their hearts with such conviction. It is sad to know that the valiant comrades who two months ago said they would not support the senator are now using their control of the Party's institutional structure to threaten anyone who dares to be consistent with the history of struggle of the Party that bears the name of their class: the Workers' Party," he declared.
