Bahia 247 - The president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), is setting a precedent with his attitude of disobeying the decision of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to remove him from office.

The first 'student' on record is the mayor of Barreiras (in the interior of Bahia), Antônio Henrique de Souza. He refused to comply with an injunction issued by the State Court of Justice, responding to a request from the municipal public servants' union, to compel the city hall to deduct 1% of the total payroll from salaries and transfer it to the union.

The percentage corresponds to the so-called 'union tax,' which makes these entities millionaires. The mayor cited the case of Renan Calheiros to argue that he will also disregard the preliminary injunction.

Carmélia da Mata, president of the union, accuses the mayor of suspending the deduction from employees' salaries, as well as the transfer of funds to the union, "in an arbitrary and persecutory manner."
