During a breakfast meeting with the press in Maceió this Monday, the 16th, in which he launched three pre-candidates from his party for the major election, the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB), did not rule out the possibility of launching his own candidacy for governor of Alagoas in 2014; "Currently, there is no dialogue with the PSDB of [Governor Teotonio] Vilela. Given this scenario, and if the population accepts it, I will make my name available," he stated; Renan also said that Fernando Collor (PTB) is a good name for the Senate and harshly criticized Vilela's administration: "he hasn't been getting it right with social programs."

Alagoas247 "The government has been failing to get essential public policies right, such as health, education, and public safety. It's regrettable how the state government has been conducting the federal 'Brasil Mais Seguro' program. More than R$ 200 million has already been spent in Alagoas alone. And only now is the government going to put a thousand police officers on the streets, breaking campaign promises," Senator Renan Calheiros pointed out.

PMDB CANDIDATES - The parliamentarian stated that the PMDB will have a leading candidate for governor of the state in 2014. The PMDB member highlighted the political strength of some allies, such as the former mayor of Arapiraca, Luciano Barbosa, the former vice-governor, José Wanderley, and federal deputy Renan Filho. According to Renan, they all possess sufficient public service experience to reverse the terrible social indicators that the state continues to exhibit, despite the significant support from the federal government.

Regarding a possible candidacy led by him, Renan, once again, did not deny his intention to launch his name. For some months, the senator has been traveling throughout the state, putting his name forward, as he says in his speeches, to the disposal of the people of Alagoas. “Currently, there is no dialogue with Vilela's PSDB. Only with Senator Benedito de Lira's PP and Senator Collor's PTB. Given this scenario, and if the population accepts it, I will put my name forward; I believe that in April or March we will have a decision on this,” he reinforced.

"In 2014, we will have a leading candidate for governor; this issue has already been decided within the party. Luciano Barbosa, for example, was Minister of National Integration and mayor of Arapiraca for eight years. Renan Filho was also mayor of Murici and currently works in Brasília. Wanderley's public life also speaks for itself. They all have the capacity to participate in the succession process in Alagoas," the senator emphasized, adding, "

Highlighting Collor - Renan also advocated for a multi-party alliance in Alagoas, following the national trend, which should support the re-election of President Dilma. "Senator Collor's public life makes him an excellent candidate for re-election to the Federal Senate. I believe he possesses all these characteristics," he pointed out.

Despite putting names on the table for 2014, Renan confirmed that there is still no decision on an ideal candidate to succeed the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) governor in Alagoas. "At this moment, we are listening to all allied parties. But, as I said before, there is no decision regarding the candidate. All names will be discussed," Renan stated.
