Alagoas 247 - The Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas (MPE/AL) has opened a civil inquiry to investigate possible irregularities in the requalification work of the Archbishopric of Maceió, located in the center of Maceió. The order was published in the State Official Gazette (DOE) this Monday (30).

In the publication, Public Prosecutor Nísia Cunha Rios Cavalcanti addresses a complaint reporting inadequacies in the restoration and requalification work of the former Archbishop's Palace, better known as the Archbishopric of Maceió, located at the corner of Barão de Anadia and Buarque de Macedo streets.

According to the prosecution, the State, through the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), was responsible for overseeing the restoration works and services, while the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) was responsible for preventing and monitoring any possible misappropriation of the object.

For this reason, the Public Prosecutor's Office decided to initiate a public civil inquiry, requesting information from the Secretariat of Culture and the IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) superintendency regarding the completion of the restoration work. The objective is to clarify whether the contracted company executed the works and services in accordance with the guidelines of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), as well as the special techniques and procedures employed for the restoration and renovation of buildings listed as historical heritage.
