São Paulo – The rapporteur of the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp), Cauê Macris (PSDB), today (11) accepted the representation of deputy Carlos Giannazi (PSOL) and gave a favorable opinion for the CCJ to initiate a process for the loss of mandate of the state's vice-governor, Guilherme Afif Domingues.
Giannazi filed a complaint with the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) against Afif, requesting the removal of the vice-governor due to his holding of the federal position concurrently with his role as Minister of the Secretariat for Micro and Small Enterprises. Afif can still present his defense to the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ). Currently, Afif is on leave from his federal position to temporarily assume the governorship of the state, due to the incumbent governor, Geraldo Alckmin, traveling to France.
"As rapporteur, I vote in favor of the admissibility by this committee of the representation formulated by Deputy Carlos Giannazi, with the purpose of declaring the loss of the mandate of vice-governor of the state of São Paulo," says the opinion presented today by Macris.
The rapporteur's acceptance of Giannazi's representation in the CCJ shows that he sees formal prerequisites and indications of non-compliance with the norms of the Constitution of the state of São Paulo, "always emphasizing that this analysis at this stage is not carried out in depth," the opinion highlights. From now on, the members of the commission will begin to analyze the impeachment of Afif.
The opening of impeachment proceedings will go to a roll-call vote in the committee, composed of 13 full members, plus the president and vice-president. Approval of the resolution requires an absolute majority. If approved, the process will continue its course within the House.
