Regina Sousa: I won't be a supporting character, I'll go for it, I'll fight, like I always have.

Candidate for vice-governor on Governor Wellington Dias' ticket, Senator Regina Sousa (PT-PI) stated that she prepared to renew her mandate, but will do what the party collectively decided; “Now it's official. I will not be a supporting player, I will go on the offensive, to the fight, as I always have. The governor made the proposal to the PT and there was some resistance, but the vast majority approved the pure ticket,” she said.

By Piauí Today - Next Friday (03), at 14 pm, at the Atlantic City Club, the Workers' Party will officially announce the candidacies of Governor Wellington Dias, who is seeking a second re-election, and Senator Regina Sousa, the vice-governor. The PT approved the majoritarian candidacies and decided on the formation of the proportional "big slate". Regina Sousa was interviewed on Monday morning (30), when she spoke about the PT meeting over the weekend. The senator said she was ready for the challenge and lamented the prejudice against it on social media.

“Of course I prepared myself to be a senator, but I do what the party decides collectively. Now it’s official. I won’t be a supporting player, I’ll go for it, I’ll fight, as I always have. The governor made the proposal to the PT and there was some resistance, but the vast majority approved the pure ticket.”

The senator doesn't believe the allied parties are dragging their feet after the PT (Workers' Party) chose her name instead of accepting another nomination to complete the main ticket. "We have to wait and see. I believe no one is obligated to stay in a coalition. If they stayed, I believe they have a commitment to the governor. I don't believe they'll drag their feet, that they'll boycott the governor's election. The campaign has started, everyone will be campaigning."

Regarding the prejudice she has faced since the PT party decided on her candidacy for vice-president, Regina Sousa lamented the attacks. “I suffer prejudice for everything: for being a woman, for being black, for the way I dress, for my hair. Anyone who follows social media sees the disaster that the reaction was, not in relation to me personally, as a political citizen, because I challenge that. Don't demand elegance from me, demand substance.”

According to the senator, some people say stupid things out of pure prejudice. “The reaction was terrible because of the pure ticket [...] but the aggression was directed at me. There's a city councilor who said I'm an animalistic person and then retracted it, but I have screenshots. I see this same person taking communion in church. So I wonder, what kind of Christian is this who chooses to attack a person? If they choose to attack politics, there's no problem,” she downplayed.
