TV 247 - Senator and current vice-governor candidate for the state of Piauí, Regina Sousa (PT-PI), gave an interview to TV 247 this week, outlining her government proposals for the people of Piauí, as well as highlighting her pride in her origins. "The elite go crazy seeing humble people like me in power," says the senator.
In these elections, some female senators from the progressive camp will leave the House in order to run for other positions, in a Senate with an already reduced number of women, with eighty-one male senators and only thirteen women.
Regina Sousa believes that the reduction in women's participation in the Senate is a reality. "Despite all our differences, every time gender-related issues were raised, there was unity among the female senators," she reports.
In 2016, the senator, who is proud to highlight her humble origins and say that she represents the face of the Brazilian people, suffered hate attacks from presenter Danilo Gentili, who called her the "coffee lady" of the Senate.
Regina Sousa says she's already used to hate attacks. "This is the result of an elite that freaks out when they see humble people coming to power, look at Lula, he's in prison because of the fury of the ruling class," she explains.
