Tocantins 247 - At the Luz da Manhã agricultural prison in Cariri, inmates in the closed regime have excelled in productive inclusion projects. One of the internal projects carried out is the production of soccer balls. They produce at least 300 balls per week, a number that, according to the Secretary of Defense and Social Protection, Gleidy Braga, reflects the inmates' commitment to the activity.

The production of balls is organized by inmates Charles Gomes, 28, and Romeu Alves, 32. According to businessman Fábio Henrique, a client of the inmates, the money passed on to the inmates for the production goes to their families.

"Even while confined in the unit, the inmates work and contribute income to the family budget, making them feel useful to society," says the head of the Cariri unit, Daniel Barbosa, who, along with Gleidy Braga, reviewed the inclusion projects offered in Cariri on May 30th.

The inmates also work with the production of vegetables and animals, especially poultry and pigs. According to João Texeira, a staff member at the unit and responsible for the space, the inmates are working on revitalizing the area. For Geraldo Júlio, 29, this is a very important opportunity, "I want to leave here with the means to provide something good for my children and never return to a life of crime," he says.
